Bay Cities FC To Host Guatemala Under-20 National Team For Friendly on August 3rd

Published Jul 25, 2022

Bay Cities FC will host the Guatemala Under-20 National Team for an international friendly at Sequoia High School on Wednesday, August 3 at 7:30pm PST. It marks the first meeting between the two sides and Bay Cities’ first match ever against a national team.

“We are excited to be able to participate in bringing in an international team to the Peninsula,” said Bay Cities President and Head Coach. “This Guatemala team is a once in a generation squad having made the U-20 World Cup, we really are going to be facing the top young players of a great football country. I encourage every football loving fan to take advantage and come see what will be a spectacle right here in Redwood City.”

Led by Head Coach Rafael Loredo, Guatemala’s Under-20 roster includes players aged 17-19 years old, playing at clubs throughout the Central American nation and in the United States. The young side have experienced tremendous success so far in 2022, having narrowly lost to the Dominican Republic U20 team on penalties in the CONCACAF U20 Championship on July 1st. Guatemala defeated Canada and Mexico in the Round of 16 and Quarter Finals to get there, an achievement in and of itself.

This will be Bay Cities FC’s second international friendly of the season, having already hosted Liga MX side Club Tijuana’s Under-23 team at Sequoia High School in March, which finished in a 1-1 tie.

Tickets for the game are $15 for youth and $25 for adults, and can be purchased here.
